November at Bosco Bracco: Pressing, Preparations, and Autumn’s Quiet Charm

November has been a busy and rewarding month at Bosco Bracco as the cycle of winemaking continues in full swing. Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to:

The Winemaking Process in Full Swing

This month, we began pressing our Barbera grapes, a pivotal step in their journey to becoming rich, full-bodied wine. We also celebrated the production of our Le Vallon Chardonnay, and our newest addition, Il Tramonto which will both be bottled this spring.

Another highlight of November was the svinatura (racking), an essential step where we separated the wine from the vinaccia (grape skins and seeds). After this, the vinaccia was loaded into baskets for pressatura (pressing). Once pressed, we dug out the vinaccia and prepared it for transport to the distillery, where it will be transformed into our own grappa.

With these steps completed, we are now immersed in the meticulous job of cleaning the cantina. Soon, all the wines we’ve crafted this year will take their well-deserved rest, beginning their aging process and revealing the character of the 2024 vintage.

A Warm Welcome to Future Celebrations

We were delighted to host a special visit from a lovely couple from Germany, along with their wedding planner as they plan their June 2025 wedding at Bosco Bracco. Seeing the villa and gardens come alive with their vision was a joyful moment, and we look forward to being part of their unforgettable celebration.

Preparing for Winter’s Embrace

As the vibrant greens of summer have shifted to the golden and russet tones of autumn, our garden and terrace are being readied for the colder months. Furniture has been tucked away, and the grounds are being prepped for winter. We experienced our first frost of the season, and the foggy mornings and nights have added a mysterious beauty to the landscape. In fact, the fog, or nebbia, is a nod to the Nebbiolo grape, named for these misty conditions that are so characteristic of the region.

Looking Ahead

This November also brought exciting plans for the spring. DeVonne and Jeff will return to Bosco Bracco to assist with bottling between 10,000 and 15,000 bottles, a significant milestone as we prepare to share the fruits of this and prior year's labor with the world.

As we wrap up this productive and reflective month, we’re reminded of the cycles of nature, the joy of creation, and the shared moments that make Bosco Bracco such a special place.

Stay tuned as we journey into winter and prepare for the festive season ahead! Visit boscobraccowines.com to learn more about our wines, villa, and upcoming events.

Ciao for now!

The Canelli region is buzzing this October with the completion of the grape harvest, a season that was both challenging and rewarding. Like many other areas in Northern Italy, the unpredictable weather—featuring early and often rains followed by extreme dry spells—resulted in a reduced yield. Despite these difficulties, the quality of the grapes remains exceptional, promising excellent vintages across the region, including here at Bosco Bracco.

The Harvest at Bosco Bracco

At Bosco Bracco, we have focused on maintaining our tradition of quality through meticulous care. Our vineyards, perched on the hills of Canelli, cultivate prized red grapes such as Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Dolcetto, alongside smaller plots of Chardonnay and the local white variety, Cortese. This year’s harvest was completed entirely by hand, a testament to our dedication to environmental stewardship and the craftsmanship that defines DOCG wine production.

We are excited to share that Bosco Bracco's 2024 wines—including Le Serre, La Riva, Il Masio, the return of Le Vallon and our newest edition, Il Tramonto. These wines reflect the essence of our land and the meticulous care that goes into every bottle. Le Vallon, our limited-edition Chardonnay, is making a comeback through an exciting partnership with a close friend. Produced in small quantities, this release captures the elegance and character of the Piedmont terroir, promising a crisp, refined wine with a story worth sharing. Il Tramonto, inspired by the stunning sunsets over our vineyards, will be a special release, blending tradition with a contemporary touch. Primarily made from our finest Barbera grapes, Il Tramonto will be an approachable wine that will be best enjoyed young. The texture and tannins shine through as we opted to keep this gem off the oak for something a little different.

Celebrating Canelli’s Heritage and UNESCO Anniversary

This year marks a special milestone for Canelli and the surrounding region as we celebrate the anniversary of its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rolling hills of Canelli, dotted with historic vineyards and the famous underground cellars known as "Underground Cathedrals," represent not only the heart of Italian winemaking but also a cultural legacy that stretches back centuries.

These cellars, carved deep into the hills, have long been a cornerstone of the region’s wine production, and they continue to attract wine enthusiasts and travelers alike.

At Bosco Bracco, while we don’t produce sparkling wine, we honor this rich heritage by crafting wines that embody the spirit of Canelli.

As Canelli's historic status continues to draw global attention, we are thrilled to announce we will begin offering private tastings and curated events at our villa starting in Summer 2025, giving guests a chance to experience the beauty, culture, and craftsmanship that make this region so special.
